Zap Those Buzz

Jaime Lyndon Yaneza, senior anti-virus consultant with Trend Micro Philippines, offers the following tips to keep your computer virus-free:

1)    It is no longer true that you can safely read e-mail if we don’t open attachments. If the source is unknown and appears suspicious, delete it. If we know the sender but are still suspicious, send a massage verifying that the person really sent it.
2)    Never open files with more that one file extension (such as Ricky Martin.JPG.VBS). There is no reason for multiple extensions.
3)    Don’t use pirated software, which can carry viruses.
4)    Load anti-virus software into your system and use it to scan all desks you put into your computer or files that you download. Norton (Norton.com) and McAfee (McAfee.com) offer trial software, and Trend Micro have a free online virus scanning service at http://housecall.antivirus.com.
5)    Save Microsoft World files in rich text format (.rtf) instead of as.doc files. This strips off any macro virus that could have infected the documents.
