October Is Animal Welfare Month

It is the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and probably of those who love animals. During this month, many parishioners take their pets to their churches to have them blessed. The editor noticed a few years ago that only a few of the parishes in the country have this yearly tradition, but now many parishes have own pet blessing.

In fact year 2005 alone, have received several invitations for their own pets blessings in their parishes, but they have to decline because they are understaffed and besides, some of those invitations were sent at last minute.

In this issue, the story of St. Francis of Assisi is told. The story has been retold many times of those who believe in him is amazed by his ability to talk and understand animals. A person who loves animals should be very proud to read a gem of wisdom from St. Francis of Assisi.

While we rejoice that many fellowmen have considered their pets as part of their families, many our “kababayans” still consider themselves superior to their animal friends that they do not find themselves living harmoniously with them. One example is an article He read in the papers that cats are fired upon by the soldiers in one of the military camps in the metropolis. How pathetic is that? Did it ever occur to officers of the camp to donate three poor cats to one of the animal shelters, instead of targeting as if they have no life at all.

Surely one of their people might find place in their home for these cats. An editor asked of the reporters to do a story unfortunately as a press time he has still to interview the camp director to get his side. We cannot run the story with one angle, don’t you agree? Hopefully i can post the continuation of this issue in my next post.

Fighting Global Warming, As Easy As Changing Light Bulbs

The biggest cause of global warming is the carbon dioxide released when fossil fuels like oil and coal are burned for energy. So when save energy, let’s fight global warming and at the same time we can save money.

Here are some easy steps you can take:

  • Raise your voice. Send a message to your elected officials, letting them know that you will hold them accountable for what they do-or fail to do-about global warming.
  • Choose an efficient vehicle. A car that gets 20 miles per gallon will emit about 50 tons of carbon dioxide over it’s lifetime. A car getting 40 mpg will emit half-polluting, most efficient vehicle that meets your needs . Maybe it’s an innovative hybrid that combines a gasoline engine with electric motors( and never need to be plugged in). Or maybe it’s a wagon instead of an SUV.
  • Drive smart. Get your engine tuned up and keep your tires inflated-both help fuel efficiency. A tuned up could be boost your miles per gallon anywhere from 4 to 40%; a new air filter could get you 10% more miles per gallon.
  • Drive less. When possible, choose alternatives to driving (public transit, biking, walking, and carpooling), and bundle your errands together so you’ll make fewer trips.
  • Replace your light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs. While compact fluorescent are initially more expensive than the incandescent bulbs most people use, they last 10 times as long. What’s more, a compact fluorescent will lower your energy bills and keep half a ton of carbon dioxide out of the air. (Source: www.nrdc.org)

Balancing Work And Friendship

I Remember when I worked one of the a best company here in Cebu, at first day of my work it’s really hard of course for I need to adjust the people around , the job site, surrounding’s everything. It’s really hard from time to time of working and I’m glad that it won’t take long time of familiarizing my job at the same time easy for me to get along with the people around specially to the senior staff. Until one time I met this one good person and we became good friend, in fact she’s the one or let me say she is my alarmed clock at work for being a neophyte there are times that I forget that we have a break time so she’s the one who reminds me. I really thank God for that, at least it won’t hard for me to adjust at work and it seems everything came easy to adjust at work and it seems everything came easy to me.

And from that time on I learn two things to that experience that I need to balance my work and my friendship. Yes it is true that friendship really helps in work because friends tend to think on on the same plane. I do agree on what a professional mother saying on one of the best newspaper have I read this morning. It says.”Misunderstanding at the work scene can not be avoided. ” Sometimes there are things that you do which may not be to her liking,” she said. Bu she does not allow it to affect her work and she with her friend always work it out.

When asked about balancing friendship and professionalism, she said:”When you’re at work, you should always be professional.

” You should never let your friendship overshadow what you need to do at work, what you need to do is a professional , because once too much friendship sinks in, you would tend to take things for granted.

Do not lose focus on what you need to do to be able to do well, if not excel in the job at hand.”

Professionalism and work may not be on the same plane, but it can survive with the right balance of friendship in the work atmosphere.

Why Do We Have Hair?

One day, when my niece and I were playing at home when suddenly she asked me a question. We all know that children at the age of 2 to 5 years have lots of questions that comes into their minds; the 4w’s what, when, where and who.  So she asked “Why do we have hair?” Oh my, what a question really of course, they won’t stop asking until we can answer their questions. And just explaining to her that it is God’s creation for our crowning glory. And she said “ah, ok.”  Thank God for she’s not asking another question for honestly speaking it’s hard for me to explain to her.  Though she seemed not satisfied of my answer, at least I made her stop on asking.

And for that I have a lesson to learn, that being a book lover, you’ll learn many things and what you’ve learned you can share it to others especially to the children. Why I’m this, for I have read a book and I was interested in this topic about the kid and his dad. I was imagining myself on the shoes of this father when my nephew asked same questions. I found the answer of her question, about why do we have hair? It says: Unlike most other mammals, humans do not have thick layer of fur covering the body. Some believe as our ancestors developed sweat glands to cool the body, natures protective overcoat thinned. But we did keep dense patches of follicles around our most vulnerable areas-a clever idea hairs on our heads, for instances protect us from the sun and insulates us form cold.

As for the body’s other clumps of hair-those under arms around the crotch-they entirely different purpose. They carry odors produced by our bodies pheromones, the chemicals secreted to attract mates.

Because she can not understand this at her age yet, so I manage explain in the most simple and understandable way.

God’s Great Miracle

Lately I have realized that I am giving importance and priority to other people and not things about God and spiritual concerns. This I must change in me.  Even seminars I have attended has not touched me. Hope in this Great Miracle, God curing my goiter, I will come to realize and must give priority  to Holy Masses and Spiritual concerns before anything else.

I now come to realize that God had cured me coz of my parents’ prayers and sacrifices. How much more if I myself will cooperate and make covenant with God? Thank God that I have realized this early, that health is wealth indeed given by God!

With My Sister In-law

Sunday, my sister in-law and I woke up early coz we need to attend mass at the same time make confession.  It’s almost a month since I had my last confession. Thank God,  as we arrived at the church the confession is on going while the Mass is starting. I really felt great after confession for it eases the hard feelings I carried for almost a month. That’s the best thing of being a church goer for there is a bugging feeling if something is lacking in our life spiritually. It was really a beautiful Sunday for I’ve done my Sunday obligations.

My New Job

My second day at home is new to me for I was busy even early in the morning for i need to do my job, which my friend taught me. That’s one good thing I’ve learned from them, actually for me my one month and five days staying there I really learned many things and i missed our daily routine. That even just one month it seems one year to me. A big opportunity I almost waisted in fact it’s been a while since they shared this new job to me, but i did not show any interest for i thought it is impossible on my level of knowledge.Just imagined myself compare to them that have gone long way when it comes to computers.Oh my, i lost myself confidence again when it involves to a big decisions like this. Thanking God that Ate CY and DY don’t stop helping me even we’re far from each other they really find a way to keep in touch so that i can work and learn this too. I do appreciate the kindness they’ve share offered to me, for now a days it’s really hard to look for friends like them, they are one of a million. Thanks for being so nice to me and to my family as well! I am very grateful to have you became part of my life, I am very proud of you!
